It was reported today that the San Francisco Giants have decided to remove all references and tributes to Barry Bonds (except for a plaque marking the spot where Bonds' last HR landed) from their home field at Pac Bell Park in San Francisco. While many people have a negative opinion of Barry Bonds due to what is believed to be Bonds' likely involvement with steroids (and Bonds' personality certainly doesn't help things), the absolute fact of the matter is that throughout this decade, the San Francisco Giants "milked" Bonds' record-setting exploits for every nickel they could make off of them, never seeming to be bothered by the fact that those exploits could be tainted. Now, the Giants are effectively treating Bonds as a "non-person" as though he were an out-of-favor member of the old Soviet Union's politburo being erased from the history books.
You don't have to be a Barry Bonds sympathizer (and I , BTW, am not) to see the sleaze and hypocrisy in this move; for most of this decade, the Giants drew sellout crowds at home even though they had bad teams whose only "draw" was Barry Bonds.
I don't usually wish this on any sports organization, but I fervently hope the citizens of the San Francisco Bay area give the Giants organization years of empty seats. The Giants deserve their "day in court" just as their former star attraction, Barry Bonds, is getting.

Bonds is too big of a jerk for anyone outside of San Francisco to even care. A sleazy player on a sleazy team. I hope Bonds AND the Giants get everything they deserve.
