A former Detroit Red Wings executive faces a federal charge of processing child pornography, according to an indictment unsealed earlier this month.
Matthew Brown, who up until recently held the post of vice president of corporate partnership sales for the Red Wings, was indicted on one felony county by an Eastern District of Michigan grand jury. He entered a plea of not guilty on Monday and is currently free on bond.
"Mr. Brown resigned from his job earlier this year and, as such, we consider today's developments to be a personal matter between him and the federal authorities," Tom Pryden, a spokesman for the Red Wings' parent company, Olympia Entertainment, said in a statement. "Beyond that, we have no additional information to share."
A message left early Wednesday morning with Brown's lawyer was not immediately returned.
In a complaint filed in March, prosecutors said that Brown did "knowingly received and possess child pornography that has been transported in interstate and foreign commerce" in violation of a federal statute. An FBI agent wrote in the complaint that his agency used the peer-to-peer program Limewire to draw out alleged predators by using the phrase "hussyfan," a term used by those who consume child porn. Among the IP addresses -- a unique numerical label that identifies each device that accesses the Internet -- the FBI was able to connect to a computer that hosted 25 files that depicted several nude pre-pubescent females.
Agents tracked the IP address down to a Comcast account linked to Brown's home in Northville, Mich. When a search warrant was executed at his home on Feb. 4, Brown allegedly told agents he had used Limewire "to download and view approximately 100 images of child pornography."
